‘But if I am in good health, active and enjoy a smoke, why should I give up ?’ is the logic smokers put forward. Why indeed ? Here are some convincing benefits :
When you stop smoking, your health will improve almost immediately; the level of carbon monoxide and nicotine in your system will decrease significantly. Within a few days, your senses of smell and taste should improve. You may breathe easier, and your smoker’s cough will begin to disappear.
But at the end of your first nonsmoking year, your risk of heart attack will decrease by half, and by five years it will be almost the same as that someone who have never smoked.. Within seven years, your risk of bladder cancer will drop to that of a nonsmoker. And after 10 to 15 years of nonsmoking, your statistical risk of getting cancer of the lung, larynx or mouth will approach that of someone who has never smoked.
You will also rid yourself of the unpleasantness associated with smoking. Bad breathing, yellow teeth and smelly clothing and hair. And you will set the right example four your children, grandchildren and friends.
